Church Beginning in Jerusalem

The visible Church traces her beginning in Jerusalem. The Lord Christ Jesus began preaching in the first century. He promised to build His Church (Mat. 16:18) which He did, as proven by the persecution of the Church by Saul et. al. (Acts 8:1). The Church was built on the foundation CHRIST who is the chief cornerstone (Eph. 2:20); and, the apostles, including Simon Peter, as the pillars (Gal. 2:9). The faithful who were scattered when persecution broke out against the Church preached the words of God wherever they went and proclaimed the Christ (Acts 8:4-5), the power and the wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:24).

Prophecy About the Church Formation in the Far East

The Lord Christ Jesus prophesied that He has '"other sheep not of this fold (or flock) and they shall be one fold (flock)..." The flock is the Church He purchased with His own blood (Acts 20:28). The Church will be established in the Far East, in a nation composed of many islands and its people speak in various tongues (dialects) at the end of the earth (Isa, 24:15, 28:11, 43:5-7) at the time when peoples of the world are yearning for peace (Jer. 6:14,16).

Prophecy About the Church in the Far East Fulfilled

The prophecy of the Lord was fulfilled with the formation of the Church in May 1922 in the Philippine Islands (now Republic of the Philippines) through His instrumental pastor (John 10:16) Bishop Teofilo D. Ora.

This was after the formation of the League of Nations whose purpose is to attain peace and cooperation of all nations in the world in 1920 which became effective in 1921, signaling the fulfillment of a prophecy when people will yearn for peace, peace when there is no peace (Jer. 6:14). After this momentous event in this lowly world, the people of the Lord are asked to look and ask where the good WAY is and walk in it where they will find rest for their souls (Jer. 6:16). This was the same "way" which Paul persecuted (Acts 22:4) which in reality is the "CHURCH" (Acts 8:1). She was first called "Iglesia Verdadera de Cristo Jesus" (the “True Church of Christ Jesus”) or in short, “Christians” (Acts 11:26). It was not until 1935 that the name Church of God in Christ Jesus (1 Thes. 2:14) was revealed to a pious deaconess from the Province of Bulacan (about 70 Kms. North of Manila, Island of Luzon in the Philippines) named Sis. Mercedez Verde and actually used in that same year through one of the Ministers in the Church, Bro. Marcelo Cabayan. When Bishop T. Ora died in 1969, Bishop Salvador Payawal took over as the Church Bishop.

Philippine Islands Church of God in Christ Jesus was registered in 1979 as the name to emphasize that the Church was to be established in a place described by Prophet Isaiah (Isa. 24:15. It was during the accession of the Church Bishop Gamaliel T. Payawal (his spiritual name is Bro. Neziah) in 1990 when the Most Holy Church of God in Christ Jesus (Lev. 28:27; 1 Thes. 2:14) was effected.

The march towards perfection (1 Cor. 13:10) is a change process in itself. And this process shall continue until the promises are fulfilled in the Church, which the Lord Christ Jesus has established as His spiritual body, the MOST HOLY CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS.

Millennial Kingdom

“Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him for a thousand years” (Rev. 20:6, also in verse 4).

In the Lord’s timetable, the system of man was allowed to rule for 6,000 years creation. Everything on earth including man was created in six (6) days to the Lord (2 Peter 3:8). The period of creation signifies the span of time (6 days = 6,000 years) the system of man will rule, and the 7th day is the day of rest, which is called Sabbath (from the Hebrew word sha, vat’ meaning, to rest) by the Jews. “There remains therefore, then, a (one day) Sabbath – rest for the people (nation) of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of their (Israel) disobedience” (Heb. 4:9-11 NIV). The Sabbath therefore is the 1,000 years (milli annum in Latin) or the 7th day. This often referred to as the Millennial Kingdom wherein Christ and His body (the Church) will reign to effect the system of God. It is referred to as a period of rest because true peace will prosper, for a just system will prevail (Micah 4:4).

The end of the world, the second coming of Christ Jesus, and the first resurrection of the dead (Mat. 24:3; Rev 20:6) are three related events. The Second Coming of the Lord will mark the end of the world and will also be the first resurrection of the dead. The Holy Scriptures said that “After two days, He will revive us: in the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight. Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth” (Hos. 6:2-3). The first resurrection of the dead will happen after two days, meaning after Bible 2,000 years. The latter and former rain was meant to be in the first month (Joel 2:23). The end of the world will mark the beginning of the millennial kingdom when God Most High (El Elyon) with the Most Holy Church will reign for a thousand years. Anyone who resists being ruled over would be slain (Luke 19:27). “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new” (Rev. 21:4-5 (a).

These three different but related future events are revealed truth, which were made known (Eph 1:9) to the Most Holy Church.

BELIEFS & DOCTRINES

GOD

We believe that God exists and is pleased with all who draw near by faith. We worship the one holy and loving God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit eternally. God has created all things visible and invisible, has brought salvation and new life to humanity through Jesus Christ, and continues to sustain the church and all things until the end of the age.

JESUS CHRIST

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Word of God become flesh. He is the Savior of the world, who has delivered us from the dominion of sin and reconciled us to God by his death on a cross. He was declared to be Son of God by his resurrection from the dead. He is the head of the church, the exalted Lord, the Lamb who was slain, coming again to reign with God in glory.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the eternal Spirit of God, who dwelled in Jesus Christ, who empowers the church, who is the source of our life in Christ, and who is poured out on those who believe as the guarantee of redemption.

THE BIBLE

We believe that all Scripture is inspired by God through the Holy Spirit for instruction in salvation and training in righteousness. We accept the Scriptures as the Word of God and as the fully reliable and trustworthy standard for Christian faith and life. Led by the Holy Spirit in the church, we interpret Scripture in harmony with Jesus Christ.

THE CREATION

We believe that God has created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, and that God preserves and renews what has been made. All creation has its source outside itself and belongs to the Creator. The world has been created good because God is good and provides all that is needed for life. We believe that God has created human beings in the divine image. God formed them from the dust of the earth and gave them a special dignity among all the works of creation. Human beings have been made for relationship with God, to live in peach with each other, and to take care of the rest of creation.

SIN

We confess that, beginning with Adam and Eve, humanity has disobeyed God, given way to the tempter, and chosen to sin. All have fallen short of the Creator's intent, marred the image of God in which they were created, disrupted order in the world, and limited their love for others. Because of sin, humanity has been given over to the enslaving powers of evil and death.

SALVATION

We believe that through Jesus Christ, God offers salvation from sin and a new way of life. We receive God's salvation when we repent and accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. In Christ, we are reconciled with God and brought into the reconciling community. We place our faith in God that, by the same power that raised Christ from the dead, we may be saved from sin to follow Christ and to know the fullness of salvation.

THE CHURCH

We believe that the church is the assembly of those who have accepted God's offer of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. It is the new community of disciples sent into the world to proclaim the reign of God and to provide a foretaste of the church's glorious hope. It is the new society established and sustained by the Holy Spirit. We believe that the mission of the church is to proclaim and to be a sign of the kingdom of God. Christ has commissioned the church to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them, and teaching them to observe all things he has commanded.

BAPTISM

We believe that the baptism of believers with water is a sign of their cleansing from sin. Baptism is also a pledge before the church of their covenant with God to walk in the way of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Believers are baptized into Christ and his body by the Spirit, water, and blood.

COMMUNION

We believe that the Lord's Supper is a sign by which the church thankfully remembers the new covenant which Jesus established by this death. In this communion meal, the church renews its covenant with God and with each other and participates in the life and death of Jesus Christ, until he comes.

FOOT WASHING

We believe that in washing the feet of his disciples, Jesus calls us to serve one another in love as he did. Thus we acknowledge our frequent need of cleansing, renew our willingness to let go of pride and worldly power, and offer our lives in humble service and sacrificial love.

DISCIPLINE

We practice discipline in the church as a sign of God's offer of transforming grace. Discipline is intended to liberate erring brothers and sisters from sin, and to restore them to a right relationship with God and to fellowship in the church. The practice of discipline gives integrity to the church's witness in the world.

MINISTRY

We believe that ministry is a continuation of the work of Christ, who gives gifts through the Holy Spirit to all believers and empowers them for service in the church and in the world. We also believe that God calls particular persons in the church to specific leadership ministries and offices. All who minister are accountable to God and to the community of faith.

UNITY

We believe that the church of Jesus Christ is one body with many members, ordered in such a way that, through the one Spirit, believers may be built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.

DISCIPLESHIP

We believe that Jesus Christ calls us to discipleship, to take up our cross and follow him. Through the gift of God's saving grace, we are empowered to be disciples of Jesus, filled with his Spirit, following his teachings and his path through suffering to new life. As we are faithful to his way, we become conformed to Christ and separated from the evil in the world. We believe that to be a disciple of Jesus is to know life in the Spirit. As the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ takes shape in us, we grow in the image of Christ and in our relationship with God. The Holy Spirit is active in individual and in communal worship, leading us deeper into the experience of God.

FAMILIES

We believe that God intends human life to begin in families and to be blessed through families. Even more, God desires all people to become part of the church, God's family. As single and married members of the church family give and receive nurture and healing, families can grow toward the wholeness that God intends. We are called to chastity and to loving faithfulness in marriage.

OATHS

We commit ourselves to tell the truth, to give a simple yes or no, and to avoid the swearing of oaths.

STEWARDSHIP

We believe that everything belongs to God, who calls the church to live in faithful stewardship of all that God has entrusted to us, and to participate now in the rest and justice which God has promised.

PEACE

We believe that peace is the will of God. God created the world in peace, and God's peace is most fully revealed in Jesus Christ, who is our peace and the peace of the whole world. Led by the Holy Spirit, we follow Christ in the way of peace, doing justice, bringing reconciliation, and practicing nonresistance, even in the face of violence and warfare.

RELATION TO GOVERNMENT

We believe that the church is the spiritual, social, and political body that gives its allegiance to God alone. As citizens of God's kingdom, we trust in the power of God's love for our defense. In contrast to the church, governing authorities of the world have been instituted by God for maintaining order in societies. Such governments and other human institutions as servants of God are called to act justly and provide order. As Christians we are to respect those in authority and to pray for all people, including those in government, that they also may be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. We also witness by being ambassadors for Christ, calling the nations (and all persons and institutions) to move toward justice, peace, and compassion for all people.

REIGN OF GOD

We place our hope in the reign of God and its fulfillment in the day when Christ will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. He will gather his church, which is already living under the reign of God. We await God's final victory, the end of this present age of struggle, the resurrection of the dead, and a new heaven and a new earth. There the people of God will reign with Christ in justice, righteousness, and peace for ever and ever.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
